Southdale is designed to be a community, a place where people live, work, educate their children, connect with their neighbours and friends and enjoy the considerable variety of amenities on offer.
This community is fully integrated into Armadale, delivering housing, employment, leisure pursuits and a wide range of other amenities. The delivery of the new Southdale Primary School. has been made possible due to funding by the developer and the gifting of serviced land to the Council, connecting the two communities.
New shops, cafes and restaurants, leisure facilities, public parks and walking trails are designed for all to enjoy. Southdale is also conveniently connected by rail, road and national cycle routes.
From the beginning it was the goal of landowner and developer, EWP Investments (EWP), to ensure that the existing community in Armadale had a say in how this extension to their town would look and what new facilities and services it would offer. EWP and its masterplan architects, EMA Architecture + Design, are working in close partnership with the community to deliver this.
Success to date could not have been achieved without considerable community support and Southdale is a key sponsor of the annual Armadale Children’s Gala Day as well as the Armadale Sports Club football team. The development team also worked with students at Armadale Academy to develop a new logo for Southdale.

A wide range of amenities to accommodate the growing population of Armadale have been incorporated into the overall masterplan. These include:
- Shops, cafes and restaurants
- Leisure facilities and extensive public parks
- Care home
- Additional new health centre for the town
- Dental surgery and opticians
Close by the centre of Armadale offers a good range of local shopping and services as well as a community centre and library, delivering a range of activities for all ages.
New families will send their younger children the new primary school to be constructed opposite the Asda supermarket while older children will go to Armadale Academy, which provides excellent sports facilities.
The Xcite Leisure Centre in the town has a swimming pool, sauna, steam room and gym, as well as providing a range of classes and activities for children, while there are great opportunities for golfers at the Bridgecastle Course and the Polkemmet Country Park Course, both 9-holes.
Polkemmet Country Park offers beautiful woodland and riverside walks, a play area, picnic areas with seating and a barbecue facility, all under two miles from Southdale. Beecraigs Country Park is just seven miles away and caters for a wide range of leisure and recreational activities .
