Building work at Southdale Primary School is progressing as planned and pupils will move into their new school for the start of the new term in August.
External superstructure brickwork has been completed and the roof works, fascia and flashings are well underway.
Work on the sports pitches has also started along with external works and the formation of footpaths, kerbing and blocking of the carpark bays.
The project will be constructed in phases, with the first phase including classrooms, GP rooms, nursery facilities, gym, dining and additional accommodation sized to suit more classes in order to futureproof the school.
The eco-friendly school has been designed to save energy with solar panels being put on the roof and greatly increased insulation to keep the school weatherproof.
The building has been designed to ensure the school can continue to grow to suit local housing developments, allowing the school to extend in pairs of classrooms.
Information for parents
A new Head Teacher has been confirmed for Southdale Primary School.
Geraldine Armstrong will take up the post in August when Southdale school is scheduled for completion. Geraldine is an experienced head teacher who previously worked at West Dunbartonshire as Head Teacher for nine years.
Originally from West Dunbartonshire, Geraldine and her husband now live in Bathgate where Geraldine spends her time regularly taking part in long distance running, also known as ultra-running.
Head Teacher of Southdale Primary School said: “I am incredibly excited about my new appointment and I am looking forward to seeing the school finished in August. This is an exciting time for Armadale and I am very proud to be a part of it.”

Out of School Care
It is anticipated that out of school care will be available by other private providers as is currently the case in the Armadale cluster.
It was also agreed at the Interim Parent Council meeting that a provisional school uniform will be in place for the start of the school term. It was agreed that a sweatshirt will be provided by the authority in the first instance and that once the school was operational the parents and children will decide what the uniform would consist off and what the colour will be. A school logo will be developed by the children and parents and this will reflect the vision and values the school are aspiring to.
Very soon, parents will receive an order form to enable them to order their child’s school sweatshirt. The form is also available on this webpage under the Related Documents section.
It would be appreciated if Parents could return the form by Friday 10th June 2016 to Education Customer Services, West Lothian Civic Centre, Howden South Road, Livingston, EH54 6FF.
As the school is not yet available for meetings it was felt that the children and parents would be given the opportunity to meet with the Head Teacher and school staff in an alternative venue, before the summer holidays. Meetings will take place in Armadale Academy for Nursery Transition, P1 Transition and P2-7 Transition.
The transition meetings will be held:
Monday 20th June – 1.30pm – 3.30pm P1 pupils and parents
Tuesday 21st June — 1.30pm – 3.30pm P2-7 pupils and parents
Thursday 23rd June – 1.30pm – 3.30pm Nursery children and parents
Tuesday 28th June — 6.30pm – 8.30pm P1-7 pupils and parents (unable to attend previous meetings)
All parents and pupils are invited and are being encouraged to attend one of these meetings at Armadale Academy in the Assembly Hall.
