Southdale shows its child’s play as childcare operator looks to locate there

14 March 2014 / News/Press Release

A childcare operator is looking to build a purpose built nursery at Southdale (formerly Armadale Station Development) in West Lothian, one of Scotland’s largest regeneration projects (images available on request).

Wee Gems, which currently operates nurseries in Broxburn, Livingston and Corstorphine, is looking to deliver a ninety-place nursery catering to those from birth to 5 years, on land at Southdale, in close proximity to the Armadale train station.

Southdale is currently one of Scotland’s most exciting developments and is being undertaken by lead developer, EWP Investments Ltd (EWP).

The new nursery, if it receives planning approval, will provide a convenient location for commuters with ample parking facility. The new premises will offer a hi-tech, modern and stimulating childcare environment and will benefit from an extensive outdoor play area.

The building design is revolutionary and allows every age group direct access to their own dedicated outdoor play area. It will be built by local West Lothian family business, A&B Brown, and the hope is that it will be operational by late summer this year.

Facilities will include:

  • CCTV, private parking/drop off and secure entry system
  • extended opening hours to accommodate commuters
  • independent baby room and sleep rooms
  • extensive outdoor play area for all age groups
  • in-house catering facility
  • all-inclusive package to include food and nappies

Mahyar Mortazavi, founder of Wee Gems said:

“Wee Gems locating to this site is testament to the fact that Southdale is one of Scotland’s most exciting regeneration projects, with some great opportunities for us as a business. Our application demonstrates the confidence we have in Southdale as a place to live, work and play, whether looking to start, or grow, a family.”

Sandra Carter from EWP Investments Ltd commented:

“We are delighted that Wee Gems has lodged a planning application at Southdale. This follows on from the success we have had with our first phase of housing and excellent sales rates, with more to follow. It is great to continue the momentum we have achieved on this major project with some further positive news.”
